The History of Honey & Beekeeping in Antiquity
Honey has been revered since ancient times, used by the Egyptian, Greek, Roman and Chinese cultures for its medicinal properties. Learn about the religious significance of honey and beekeeping across various faiths, highlighting it’s symbolic and ritualistic roles in this engaging 60 minute lecture.
About the presenter:
Catherine Wolko is a second-generation Beekeeper and owner of The Humble Bee Honey company and The Hive @ The Pin, A Farm Store and honey House located in Oakville Ct. She is a listed speaker for the Federated Garden Clubs in CT, a Member of the Back Yard Beekeepers Association, The American Beekeeping Federation, and a proud member of The Connecticut Farm Bureau. She is an advocator for the Farming Community and Beekeeper and volunteers at a community food bank and also a Watertown Lions Club member. She has spoken at libraries, churches, schools, Symposiums and Land Trusts throughout the state of Connecticut. Her Father was an avid Gardener and became a Beekeeper by chance by answering an advertisement for free bees. Her gift for gab and love for the outdoors and honey bees was her Dad’s gift to her and to everyone she met.
