The Romance of Jane Austen

The Romance of Jane Austen

Join us as Professor Rebecca Adams will discuss Jane Austen and the ideals of Romance. Learn the expectations for women during Jane Austen's life, as well as a description of Austen's life and the real life characters who inspired some of her more famous characters (Mr. Darcy and Mr. Collins).  Learn about romance in the 18th century, and how Austen's novels were really cutting edge in that regard.  The man was supposed to save and learn from the woman---not vice versa!. Her novels were searingly romantic in their time.

Don't forget to join us for For the Love of Austen events all month long!

A special thank you to the Friends of the Library for their funding of this program.
