Designing a Sunny Perennial Border

Designing a Sunny Perennial Border

How do you create a sunny perennial garden that will delight you with colorful blooms and flowers for cutting from spring through fall? Learn about plant layering, new and reliable perennials, companion plants and design techniques that will make your garden POP!

Jana Milbocker is the principal of Enchanted Gardens, a lecturer and garden writer. She published The Garden Tourist: 120 Destination Gardens and Nurseries in the Northeast in 2018, and her second book, The Garden Tourist’s New England in 2019. She has a passion for landscape design and horticulture, and has been gardening on her 2-acre property for over 25 years. The garden surrounding her Victorian home features more than 140 varieties of trees and shrubs, perennial gardens, peony and rose beds, water features and shady retreats. Jana is interested in all aspects of design—spatial relationships, the interplay of light and shadow, color theory, texture, proportion and plant combinations. Her professional experience includes twenty five years as an art director and designer. Jana holds a BFA from Syracuse University, an MBA from Boston College, and coursework in horticulture and landscape design.
