The Hot Flashes Holiday Concert
The Hot Flashes will be returning to Cheshire to perform their popular holiday concert, blending upbeat, fun and familiar songs with more contemplative quiet music coupled with the Flashes’ captivating on-stage camaraderie.
The show will feature the lush three-part harmonies of Amy Gallatin, Gail Wade, and Peggy Harvey with occasional help from JD and Roger Williams and bassist John Urbanik, along with the Hot Flash signature instrumentation of guitar, fiddle, mandolin, banjo, sax, harmonica, standup bass and resophonic guitar.
The concert offers a welcome respite from the holiday rush, with an afternoon of simple moments to treasure and a chance to slow down and savor the season. Take a moment to relax and enjoy a truly unique holiday event and to say good-bye to Deputy Director Deb Rutter, who has been the host of the library concert series and is now retiring after 23 years!
The Hot Flashes are an exciting and eclectic group fronted by three female vocalists who have made a name for themselves on the New England music scene showcasing their tight vocal harmonies and jazzy acoustic stylings. The Flashes are Amy Gallatin, who with her expressive soulful singing has made a name for herself both in North America and overseas, award-winning singer-songwriter/guitarist Gail Wade, and multi-instrumentalist Peggy Harvey, founding member of the legendary bluegrass group Traver Hollow. Together they have amassed a wealth of beautifully performed songs drawn from the bluegrass, folk, vintage country, swing, jazz, and blues genres, with a few cowgirl and traditional tunes thrown in for good measure.
Backed by the solid chops of mandolinist JD Williams, Dobro veteran Roger Williams—both from Gallatin’s band Stillwaters--and bassist John Urbanik, the instrumentation also includes the occasional clawhammer banjo. As a group these six veteran musicians meld their collective experiences, voices and instruments into a unique and rousing musical experience as the three women fuse their voices into one soaring, harmonic element.
