Event Information
Monarch Butterflies
In the past decades, the overwintering population of eastern North American monarch butterflies has declined significantly. While many factors contribute to this decline, loss of milkweed, the monarch's host plant, is generally considered to be a significant cause. Restoring breeding habitat in the U.S., including milkweed and nectar sources, is an actionable step toward population recovery. Dr. Kelsey Fisher from the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station will be here to give us information designed to equip us to establish monarch butterfly habitats in our own spaces. Each attendee will also be going home with native milkweed seeds to help jumpstart our efforts in helping the monarchs!
